Initiatives

From the March 2009 Report to GBCN Members:

We have three projects on the go, all we can manage for the time being:

(1) The Web Site (www.gbcn.ca). It's there, most of you have registered, and it works. It has a few tricks, as any such web site does, but if you stick with it and follow the directions it works. We are thinking about the Mark II version, but improvement will cost money. We are working on that too. The Web Site and its associated "Discuss" e-mail list are the measures we have adopted for promotion and communication with people, organizations and venues in arts, culture and heritage, the "Culture Sector."

(2) Cultural Mapping. This project is essential to building the kind of detailed understanding that we need to root GBCN firmly in the realities of the sector, and to convince other people about them. They are an essential developmental tool, and GBCN has a developmental mandate. We are working on the funding for this project, and we will keep working until we get it. In the meantime we do what we can with what we have. The first step is a Directory of the Sector, and we have that in our web site. We will keep promoting participation.

(3) Festival 21. We are continuing to develop this idea. To refresh your memory: Festival 21 is a web festival, an opportunity for you to display your art and, within the limitations of the medium, to "perform" it. The Festival will last 21 days, one for each of our 21 Grey Bruce "areas": municipalities, counties and first nations reserves. It's purpose is promotional, and like any good festival, exhibition or show, it will stand forth as a work of art in its own right.
More information about these initiatives will be forthcoming.

If you are interested in being added to (or removed from) our discussion mailing list, please email Emma at emma@xtrinsic.com with a little note to say that you would like to be added to the list.
